Welcome Song -- The children gather outside their classroom to sing a welcome song for visitors. Joyce, wearing a bib, was unable to walk when she began attending Mama Darlene's. Born with cerebral palsy and abandoned by her mother who eventually died of AIDS, she lives with her grandparents. Disabled children often miss school in Kenya, but Monica welcomed them into the classroom and Joyce's grandfather carried her 3km from their shamba (small farm) to school every day on his back. Eventually Monica arranged for orthopedic surgery and Joyce now walks the 3km to school on her own.
